  • Overview

    General Summary


    Responsible for the installation, operation, and maintenance of critical line-of-business application software such Electronic Resource Planning (ERP) systems.   Maintains appropriate user access to application resources and data.  Protects application resources and data against damage or loss.



    Essential Job Functions



    1. Plans, configures, and installs critical line-of-business applications such as Electronic Resource Planning (ERP) and Business Intelligence (BI) systems
    2. Maintains application access, sets up appropriate accounts following established procedures, and deletes obsolete accounts to ensure application security.
    3. Monitors application performance, storage requirements, and disaster recovery procedures to ensure maximum application availability.
    4. Maintains an application’s underlying database systems in order to insure maximum application performance and availability.
    5. Responsible for complete cycle of application change management.   This includes the installation of application patches and management of the application modification lifecycle.
    6. Contacts application vendor’s support and technical personnel in order to resolve application problems, evaluate and recommend revisions to applications.
    7. Assists in planning, developing, and implementing application policies and procedures.
    8. Keeps abreast of changes in computer technology, software enhancements and development applications.
    9. Performs other duties and projects as assigned, some of which may be essential to the job.




    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


    1. Knowledge of microcomputers and local area networks in order to support the computer operations and users at a level normally acquired through completion of a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
    2. Analytical skills necessary in order to monitor application availability, resolve application problems, and install complex application software.
    3. Familiarity with the Structured Query Language (SQL) for the maintenance of application data stores.
    4. Familiarity with Unix and Linux operating system configuration and operation.
    5. A working of understanding of basic computer programming concepts such as data and loop structures.
    6. Good interpersonal skills necessary in order to provide support to users, establish and communicate network account information to users, and interact with hardware and software vendors to resolve problems.
    7. Internal Contacts: Various levels of personnel to explain technical issues to users in a non-technical manner.
    8. External Contacts: Vendors in order to plan, coordinate, and manage repairs and identify and resolve problems.


    Physical Requirements


    1. Work requires regularly sitting for extended periods of time when working with computer system.
    2. Work requires occasionally traveling to locations other than office location.
    3. Work is performed in a normal office environment where there are relatively few physical discomforts due to dust, dirt, noise, and the like.
    4. Work requires lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds when installing and fixing network hardware.
